Direct Vision Standard, CLOCS & Crossrail
Pedestrian and cyclist safety has become a prime consideration for many organisations including Transport for London (TfL).
With this in mind many cities in the UK, local councils and industry bodies have created several different standards aimed at protecting vulnerable road users and ensuring drivers have the best possible all round view from the cockpit.
Our guide below shows the requirement for each specific standard alongside our recommended equipment for compliance.
What is DVS:
- Assesses how much a HGV driver can see directly through their cab windows.
- Indicates the level of risk posed to vulnerable road users.
- Mandatory in London (within the M25) for any vehicle over 12T to be fitted DVS safety equipment.

What is CLOCS
- CLOCS stands for (construction Logistics and Community) standard is the direct result of it collaboration between the construction and fleet sectors to address shared issues in road safety. FORS silver registered users are already CLOCS compliant.

- 7 inch Monitor
- Side Scan and Sensor
- Audible Left Hand Turn Warning
- PSM (to switch off alarm at speed)
- Reversing Alarm and Warning Sign
Crossrail Requirements:
- A mandatory requirement for lorries working on any Crossrail project.
- The principal aim is to reduce injury to cyclists and pedestrians
- All vehicles must be fitted with designated safety equipment.
