The RHA has repeated its plea to the French authorities to do more to protect truck drivers from violent migrant gangs looking to enter the UK illegally.

On Thursday night, 20th February a call was received by the authorities after an alleged threat with guns and knives at a French service station occurred. The driver reported being confronted by a gang of migrants whilst parked off the A26, 150 miles from Calais.

The police were called, and the driver was left in a very shaken state. It has been reported that the French authorities must do more to protect truck drivers as migrants up their attempts to break into lorries heading for the UK.

French authorities estimate at least 23,000 migrants were caught trying to enter the UK illegally via trucks from Calais or in the Channel Tunnel last year.
