Direct Vision Standard (DVS)
In October 2020 a major new law will come into effect for those who drive larger commercial vehicles in Greater London. The proposed scheme requires all HGVs over 12 tonnes to hold a Safety Permit to operate in Greater London from 2020. HGVs will be given a rating between ‘zero-star’ (lowest) and ‘five-star’ (highest) based on the level of direct vision a driver has through the windows of the cab (and not through cameras and mirrors). Only vehicles rated ‘one star’ and above would be allowed to operate in London from 2020. Zero-rated vehicles would only be allowed if they can prove compliance through safe system measures. Safety permit required for Direct Vision Standard. This Direct Vision Standard was introduced by TfL and the Mayor Of London.
Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS)
Due to the high number of cyclist fatalities in London involving heavy goods, and most construction-related, vehicles – CLOCS was developed to review and understand the causes of these incidents and how they can be avoided.
ACSS Ltd has the capability to supply solutions to ensure transport operators adhere to the CLOCS standard to reduce the risk of accidents between vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.
Cross-Rail
Cross-Rail is the company that has been set up to develop the new railway, known as the Elizabeth line, running through central London. As this is one of the largest rail network expansions in recent times, Cross-Rail have implemented mandatory requirements for lorries to improve road safety for cyclists and other vulnerable road users when travelling to and from the Cross-Rail site.
Like the CLOCS and FORS standards, we are fully equipped to supply and install systems to guarantee that transport managers can adhere their fleet to these requirements to continue their operations on Cross-Rail sites.
