City of York approved CCTV for taxis
In York, CCTV is still voluntary but if you choose to have CCTV installed it must be approved by the council. ACSS has provided CCTV systems to drivers that have been approved by the council. York may become a mandatory council in the future as areas within Yorkshire are making it mandatory.
The Basic Requirements for City of York Taxi & PHV CCTV:
Vehicle CCTV Systems in York must be able to record footage for up to 28 days minimum.
ACSS will provide signage so that passengers are aware of the CCTV recording them.
Audio can only be recorded for three minutes if the driver or passenger feels unsafe and presses the panic button to activate the audio recording.
All captured footage will be protected and controlled by the City of York Council so in the event of an incident you would have 24 hours to report it to the council to gain access to the footage.
The CCTV system can be comprised of up to 4 cameras, see our approved systems below.
